What is the world’s most recognized handball team? – We inquired with the AI. The Hungarian record champion Telekom Veszprém has moved up to third place in the rankings. They have been featured under this name before, but three years ago they established and have since been directing the Balaton Uplands Handball Academy, which boasts esteemed figures in its coaching ranks, such as Perez Carlos, Ivo Diaz, Gulyás Péter, and Iváncsik Tamás.
Their work is not solely dedicated to nurturing talent for Telekom Veszprém, as they provided half of the U18 national team squad, and Eklemovic Markó was signed by the NB1 team MOL Tatabánya. The BFKA’s graduates are counted upon by the Hungarian national team across all age groups. Interestingly, Mikler Krisztián, the goalkeeper of the historic U21 silver medal-winning team, also won the Kanyó Memorial’s Best Goalkeeper award in 2019.
“Over the past year, we performed well in numerous international tournaments, but perhaps the most significant achievement from our results is that our squad won the Hungarian youth championship title in the 2022/23 season. In this spirit, we are gearing up for the challenges awaiting us in 2023 at the Tata tournament, eagerly anticipating the clashes with participating domestic and international teams. These matches provide an excellent foundation for the upcoming season, and we can learn a lot from the playing styles of other teams and countries, which undoubtedly contributes to the development of our young talents,” said Miklós Kolep, the director of coaching, who, incidentally, engages in lengthy, professional and friendly phone conversations with EBA Sports leaders after every major youth event.
From the perspective of a nurturing club, one of the most important questions, of course, is who are the current adult players that have emerged from their ranks? “Many of our players have continued their handball careers in top-tier teams, and we are extremely proud of them. It would be difficult to highlight specific individuals, but perhaps the most well-known are Melnyicsuk Viktor, Szita Zoltán, and Uros Borzas, who found placements in foreign teams, as well as Ilic Zoran, Ligetvári Patrik, and Lukács Péter, who became integral members of the Telekom Veszprém team.”
